WoW Ladies Travel Journal - INTERNATIONAL EDITION: Info and how to participate
This is for the INTERNATIONAL EDITION ONLY. For the U.S. version, please visit my other post here.

Hi! I'm so glad you want to participate in the WoW Ladies 1001 Journals project -- thanks for your interest!

First off, here are the basics:

WHAT IS IT? The WoW_Ladies traveling journal is a small sketchbook that is sent by mail to a list of people who sign up. This is our second run. We now have multiple U.S. volumes in circulation.Due to popular demand, I have recently added an INTERNATIONAL version. If you live outside of the U.S., this is for you! Everything is the same, except that the contributor must provide return shipping. To participate, you cannot reside in the U.S. Canadian residents, you qualify for this international edition!

HOW DOES IT WORK? When it is your turn, the journal will be mailed to you. You have two weeks to contribute, after which you mail it back to the journal maintainer in a self-addressed stamped envelope provided to you.

WHAT DO I WRITE/DRAW? You will be designated three page to write or draw something related to the World of Warcraft (such as about your character, what you like about the game, how you feel about the game, etc.). You need not write in character, although you may. You can draw anything related to the game as well (that is, dragonhawks are OK, but racoons are not).

How do I get my drawings to show up as my contribution online? I am equipped with a flat-bed scanner. When you return the journal to me, I scan your entry and email the image to you for you to upload directly to our journal site.

The journal is a pocket-sized Moleskine Japanese album. These are very unique sketchbooks that consist of one very long sheet of paper that is folded back and forth like an accordion.

The fanfold of the Moleskine Japanese album.

What makes this special is that you get three connected pages... about the length of a full letter-sized sheet of paper. This will give you a substantial amount of space to work with in the confines of a pocket-sized sketchbook. While you can use each pane separately, you are encouraged to treat the three panes/pages as one continuous area.

Eventually, the journal will look something like this:

BECAUSE OF THE UNIQUE SKETCHBOOK FORMAT OF THIS BOOK, YOU ARE STRONGLY ENCOURAGED TO ILLUSTRATE YOUR PAGES.

Caution: These books cost $2.00 to ship one way ($4.00 per contributor) which I am covering the cost for. To avoid increased costs, please do not paste or tape things to the pages that may add more weight to the book.

...........................

SOUNDS GREAT, HOW DO I SIGN UP?

Step 1: Go to The 1001 Journals Web site at http://www.1001journals.com/ and register yourself. If at all possible, and to make it easier for tracking purposes, please sign up with the same username as your LJ account.

Important: I will email you when the journal is about to head to you. You must notify me if your address has changed.

Once I have your information, you will receive an invitation from me to join the journal's sign-up list. There is a limit of 10 participants per volume, but be aware that it may still take months before you are at the head of the line. If there is enough demand I can launch additional volumes.

- Your contribution can be in the form of prose or poetry, fiction (including role play) or nonfiction (including "raid diaries," editorials, essays, an angry letter, a funny anecdote, a touching story, etc.), and/or art created by you. Please avoid pasting screenshots! The travel journal is designed for you to show your creativity. Pencil, charcoal, crayon, colored pencil, watercolor, and acrylics are fine. Due to the slow drying nature of oil paints, please refrain from using them.
- Your entry may be personal in nature; you can speak through your character's voice or your own.

You may opt out of this project at any time; just email me. However, once the journal is shipped to you, you are responsible for putting it back in the mail to me. I will provide a return labeled envelope tucked into the back of the journal so that you can pop it into the mail at any time at your convenience.

I will email you with a confirmation when you are next in the queue. You will need to notify me should your mailing address change at that time.

I hope you are as excited about this as I am!

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me at teniblue@gmail.com. Please note that my Teniblue LJ account is primarily for WoW-related posts, but that my main LJ name is Sarahpolk. Thank you!

Another big WoW milestone
Can you believe I've been playing WoW for three years? And I still enjoy it as much as I did that first month. Some people might say I'm easily amused (because how could I obsess about a game for this long?) but it's so fun!

Well today, I hit another huge milestone: I mage tanked Krosh Firehand in Gruul's Lair!!!!

Ever since we started doing joint 25-man raids with another guild, I started slowly working on my high-stamina gear. In my previous trip to Gruul's Lair, there were four mages and only one of us had enough health to tank Krosh. You need a minimum of 10,000 unbuffed, and I was only in my 7000s.

Well earlier this week, after getting the Battlecast Hood and Pants, and doing everything I could to get more health on my frost mage, I finally hit 10,100 unbuffed. I was excited because I knew it meant we might have an option to do Gruul's Lair if the other geared mage couldn't show up.

Well, she showed up... but we only had 3 healers. That place needs 6-7 healers, so our geared mage was asked to switch to her healing priest--after they determined that I could be the mage tank!

I was really really nervous and for the initial pull, I had to breathe deeply because my hands were shaking!

It took us four wipes--but not all of those were my fault! But each of those attempts gave me more experience until I had a really good grasp of what I was doing.

In the end, I was able to successfully tank Krosh and we were able to kill Maulgar!! Yay!!!

So here for your visual pleasure is my postcard from there. Sorry, it's not a shot of me actually killing Krosh because I forgot (and DURING the fight I was too busy to take a screenshot).

In particular, check out my health. Raid buffed, I was 12,413!!! Woot!

Karazhan changes = Disneyland's Haunted Mansion!
For years I had an annual pass to Disneyland, and the Haunted Mansion has always been one of my favorite.

Imagine my delight last night when, zoning into Kara, I hear some "foreboding" organ music in the foyer area!

I couldn't help myself. I wrote:

/say When hinges creek in doorless chambers and strange and frightening sounds echo through the hall, whenever candlelights flicker...where the air is deathly still...that is the time when ghosts are present...practicing their terror...with ghoulish delight.

...unfortunately I am on a Midwest server and I don't think anybody got it. In fact one guy asked me if I was reciting the narration by Vincent Price for "Thriller." D'oh!

One extremely annoying bug... channelled spells (mind flay, drain life, etc.) did not hit Attumen (and the mobs leading up to him), but instead would point straight up into the ceiling! It would still spell hit, but the animation was broken.

...

Later that night, we did a quick Scarlet Monastery run with a few of our alts to see if we noticed any changes. We had a 70 rogue, 39 lock, 24 spriest, 27 rogue, and 30 mage. We went through the Graveyard three times and the Library twice, and all the lowbies leveled at least once. If we'd run through there another time or two we would've leveled a second time. Talk about fast leveling. At one point the rogue brought pretty much the entire section's worth of elite mobs back towards us so we'd get xp without risking aggro, and as he was killing each one and the XP would be recorded in our chat log, you could actually SEE our XP bars ticking up like a second hand on a clock! Pretty wild.

The Squashling is mine!
The Squashling dropped not once, but TWICE tonight on our group! Our warrior won the first round, but then he was nice enough to give it to me (I had the second highest roll and people knew I was there for the pet). He won the second one though, so good karma. =)

I thought I'd share this pic... it's of me standing outside the Graveyard entrance of SM, and someone turned me into a leper gnome and put a jack-o-latern head on me. At that height, the Sinister Squashling is the same height as me... so what else is a leper gnome to do but /dance? So I did. Much to the amusement of those who were there.

Can I say, I LOVE this pet? When he gets tired he sits down, and looks like a squat little Jack o'lantern. But when he walks around, his leaves and roots rustle!! too cute.

Read more...Collapse )

Enjoy!

Gruul's Lair: Krosh mage tank pull?
OK so we got our faces pwned last night just trying to learn positioning and whatnot on Maulgar's encounter. And at least once (if not every time), our mage could not get his timing right to grab aggro on Krosh. So...

How tricky is this for mages? Anyone have experience with this?

From the "What did you do when you were in the 6th grade" files...
Sixth grader started a tech company in Silicon Valley and his company just secured $6.5 MILLION seed money. His company is working with MMO companies to come up with a way to be an "official commerce provider."

This entry copied from Slashdot:

12 Year Old Gets $6.5M for Gaming Company

Bayscribe writes "A Silicon Valley company co-founded by a 12-year-old has just raised $6.5 million in venture capital. PlaySpan, based in Santa Clara, Calif. says it offers game publishers a technology that lets users make payments and shop for other items. It calls itself the first "publisher-sponsored in-game commerce network." Arjun Mehta, a 6th grader, says on his Web site that he is passionate about software that can make the game experience more "rewarding," and that he started the company last year in his garage. He paid for it from earnings made from selling online game items he won."

My current HUD for raiding
Free Image Hosting at ImageShack.us
I know it's messy and cluttered as all get out, but this is my current HUD set-up for Karazhan. Yeah, that's me almost dead... but we killed him. Rowr!

I was thinking about how I should really have a venue to write about my forays in WoW, either as Teniblue or as one of my many other characters.

I didn't even think about the fact that I already have this LJ. So... I'll start keeping a journal of what I do in the game. I don't know if you want to read these, they are made mostly for my records and interest. But if you're here, enjoy!

I just got back into Deadside after helping a warlock summon a second warrior, when I got kicked from the game. I can go into other servers but Garona won't let me back in. I was the only priest, and I don't know what's wrong!

...although I might not be the only one; the WoW forums are down because the "server is too busy." That tells me something's up.
